A thermosetting polyester is often a liquid mixture of unsaturated polyester and styrene. These two components can react under the influence of a hardener (a peroxide such as dibenzoyl peroxide or a catalyst) to form a hard plastic.
Unsaturated polyester (UP or unsaturated polyester) is often processed together with fiberglass in many cases. In everyday language, it is referred to as “glassfiber” or “fiberglass” under the influence of English. This refers to fiberglass-reinforced polyester. It concerns the thermosetting polyester.
Nearly all thermoplastic plastics have abbreviations. For example, we know PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), and so on. Many abbreviations are also used for thermosetting plastics.
